#9 Descriptive writing"

1. How different is descriptive writing from narrative writing?

Writing a Narrative composition appeals to one of humankind's basic instincts, the impulse to share stories. Sometimes the aim of the story-teller is simply to entertain, to provide a moment of escape from the business of the day or the horrors of the night, but sometimes the aim of the story-teller is to instruct, to help others in their understanding of something. The best part of teaching in this way is that our listeners' natural resistance to heeding the words of others is low and they are not always aware that they are being taught anything until it's too late – we've got them.

The skills needed to narrate a story well are not entirely the same as the skills needed to write a good essay. Some wonderful short fiction writers are not particularly good essayists and vice versa. Still, it is useful to look at those elements that make up a good narrative and know how to apply what we learn toward making our essays as dramatic as possible whenever that is appropriate.

While descriptive writing is the ability to describe something convincingly will serve a writer well in any kind of essay situation. The most important thing to remember is that your job as writer is to show, not tell. If you say that the tree is beautiful, your readers are put on the defensive: "Wait a minute," they think. "We'll be the judge of that! Show us a beautiful tree and we'll believe." Do not rely, then, on adjectives that attempt to characterize a thing's attributes. Lovely, exciting, interesting – these are all useful adjectives in casual speech or when we're pointing to something that is lovely, etc., but in careful writing they don't do much for us; in fact, they sound hollow.

2. How does the maxim “Show, don’t tell” explain how one writes descriptively.

Illustrate with your own example.

More than any other kind of writing, descriptive writing strives to invoke a vivid and involved experience for the reader. It is often considered as one of the most creative forms of writing since it is basically about being able to evoke emotions in the reader through the power of words. A good descriptive essay, for instance, has the ability to arouse the reader’s senses and create a lasting impact on his or her mind. This effect can be achieved not through statistics and facts, but by detailed descriptions and observations.

3. How do you as a writer make your language descriptive? How do you add depth and

texture to a piece of writing?

An abstract summarizes the contents of an academic paper. Abstracts precede many articles in academic journals of the sciences and humanities. They tell the reader the point of the paper, its argument, major points and the conclusion it reaches based on its findings. The first sentence of an abstract introduces a problem or outlines a gap in current research in a particular area. In other words, it seeks to establish the relevance or significance of the paper

4. Other than one word modifiers, what other modifiers maybe employed in descriptive

writing?

There are some adjectives which can only be used before a noun, in the attributive position. For instance, we talk about the main problem but cannot say, the problem was main.

Adjectives which occur only in the attributive position are generally those which identify something as being of a particular type. For instance, we can talk about a financial decision where financial distinguishes this from other types of decision, e.g.: medical, political. This group of adjectives are often referred to as classifying adjectives, and rarely occur in the predicative position unless we specifically want to emphasise a contrast,

#8 ""BEST MOTIVATIONAL VIDEO EVER"

The main message of the video is that no matter how big our problem is, there is always purpose why God gave us problems because He knows we can handle it. Like the man in the video, Although he has no arms and legs, he is still happy and contented despite of his physical disabilities.
I am inspired by the video because I realized that physical disability is not the hindrance to show one's talent and ability. The man in the video shows that he is proud and is not ashamed to show his talent and shows his ability to do things which normal people can do. I am thankful to God that my physical outlook is good although I am not that tall enough but that doesn't matter to me at all because I am proud and satisfied of what I have right now.
If I were to become an inspiration for others, I will do good things such as helping those who are in needs especially those who needs love and compassion and also by being a good example to others.
Be strong! Remember that no matter how hard your life may seem, there is always someone out there who have it worse than you.

# "MATURITY"

I dislike this quote

“A mature person is one who is does not think only in absolutes, who is able to be objective even when deeply stirred emotionally, who has learned that there is both good and bad in all people and all things, and who walks humbly and deals charitably” -Eleanor Roosevelt.

Maturity is a psychological term used to indicate how a person responds to the circumstances or environment in an appropriate manner. This response is generally learned rather than instinctive, and is not determined by one's age. Maturity also encompasses being aware of the correct time and place to behave and knowing when to act appropriately, according to the situation and the culture of the society one lives in

#6 "My Journey"

They said  studying in IIT is just like walking in a forest, a virgin forest. You can't expect the dangers that you are going to encounter. Like studying in IIT , you don't exactly know the challenges that you are going to face but still, you are willing to finish it.
When I was first year high school, way back 2007,there are four things I knew about IIT. First, this institution achieved a lot of recognition and good feedback. Then,I noticed our the teachers who graduated at IIT were well trained and were an excellent teachers. They knew how to handle different kinds of student and made their lessons remained in our minds. After that, students there were idolized because once you are studying there you are considered smart. Because of these observations, I found myself fond to be in IIT and my journey begin here.
Being in IIT is not an easy task, I find it so hard. It's like entering in an eye of a needle. Problems are everywhere. below are the obstacles I encounter. First, our house is kilometers away from the school so I need to commute everyday, back and forth. Because of that, I was always reprimanded by my teacher of being always late which I work hard to change it. Second, since in our family, there are three who are in college, my parents have hard time in paying our tuition fees,we felt their hardships in fulfilling their responsibility to us. Even they don't told us  the problem but we feel it so we try our best to find ways to help them at the same time, helping ourselves to study hard for our future. Third, I find it hard to adopt and cope a new environment that was highly different from the old one and to meet and to be with different kinds of people is a big big problem I encounter. Fourth, the challenging part of being a student is to do all requirements at all the same short time and the deadlines are fast approaching because every student are afraid having low grades.Fifth, coping with stress. College life is a stressful one, coping with it is such a damn hard thing.

#5 “ HERO”

According to  “ The Penguin Dictionary”, a hero is a person admired for special courage, nobility or great  achievements.
As e reflect on this definition. A name appeared on my mind. Janet ‘Jazz’ Yosores Catubig. I doubt you know her. Who is she? Well I’ll tell you a brief memoir about her.
She’s 40 years old but look like younger on her age. Definitely, not just a woman but a strong woman. She  fights when her ego touches and when she knows she’s right. She is patient and industrious. She lived in her aunt’s house when she was studying because her aunt paid her tuition fees in exchange of her help in doing household chores and running errands. She worked hard and uncomplainingly waited for more than four years to finished her studies. She’s now working abroad as a care giver in a hospital. She’s my mother’s sister, ang my grandfathers’s daughter. My aunt I tell you, an extra ordinary aunt.
When she arrived from abroad. I used to slept at their house when I was a little younger, that’s why I knew more about her. They said. She’s strict and frank. Well, that’s true but she has reasons. First, she don’t want to be stepped again by people like what she experienced. Next, she wants an honest and sinscere conversation even it hurts. Lastly, it is because she just wants to protect her family. That’s one thing I learned from her and she continued to let me and my brothers and sisters experience the joy of learning. She paid my sister and brother’s tuition fees without asking for anything. She also paid my cousin’s tuition fees. She didn’t forget her responsibilities to her family. I awe her a lot. She’s  just not teaching me the lessons in life but also the oppurtunity to have a better future. She is my hero.
I define hero as Janet ‘Jazz’ Yosores Catubig.
Raysa Herrera ain’t nothing more to say. Bye!

#4 "Dreams that came true"

Death. I define it as the state where we stop enjoying things that we usually did in this mysterious world. It is when our body organs stop functioning and we can no longer communicate through words.
Preparing for New Year celebration was the most unforgettable happening we enjoy the most. Below are the five situation that we always do in preparation for new year. First, before new yea came, me together with my mother and sister bought fruits to display at the table for a good fortune that we believe.Second, we Filipinos believe that cleaning the house before new year means throwing all bad lucks that we had for past year. so we did. We clean. Next, my family always wrote our new year's resolution and wrap it to a candle and put it at the dining table. After that, we also enjoyed cooking. So, we prepared viands and desserts for the occasion. Lastly, we never forget to buy fireworks because for us, new year would never be complete without it. This situations were like traditions that we always follow.
But this tradition was cut last new year celebration because my brother was attacked by his asthma. Our money for new year celebration was diverted in buying medicines and we admit him to the hospital.
In the hospital, my brother told us something about his dream. Before he was attacked by his asthma, he dreamed about my grandfather who died three years at that time and it was his death anniversary. My brother added that my grandfather wanted someone to visit him. So my grandmother concluded that the reason of his asthma was because we forget to visit our grandfather's tomb.
When my brother got fine, we visited at the cemetery and offer flowers and candles. Elders believe that dead people communicate through dreams. In this situation, I stick on the saying "To see is to believe" but I never wish to see one! :)))

#3 " I Stop To Say Thank You Ma' Pa' "

Filipinos before and even now are family oriented. They really value their respective families. They give so much importance to the family relationships. Even if their children got married and still they let their children stay in their house and still depend on them. But is this right?? hmm....
Ten years from now? I see my self working, have a stable job, and have a simple and happy family together with my handsome and beautiful children. With a father of course!! But still, my life wouldn't be complete with out my beloved parents. I love them. Super! That's why ten years from now, I see my self living separately  with them. I don't want to give them  burdens anymore by depending on them even if I already have my own family. But you know what? I swear! I will not stop supporting them. Not just financially but of course in all aspects of life. I want to give  everything they want. As long as I can and as long as I live.
Words are not enough to say THANK YOU SO MUCH MAMA and PAPA!!! As these saying goes, 'Actions speaks louder than Words.' So even if I let then know everyday how I'm thankful that I have them but I'm not showing it into actions, it is useless. So better put it into actions. I want to take care of them. I want to be the one who will make foods for them. Who will fix their bed, who will comb their hair. I want to be always in their side through thick and thin. Maybe in that way, I can express my gratitude of having them in my life. ^__^

#2 Reading and Writing

In this competitive world, reading and writing are just two important skills everyone needs to learn. But hello!! Competition is everywhere. If we just merely know how to read and write, we just end up LOSING! Even we know how to read and write, how good are we? Just think of it.
Since we were kids, our parents and teachers taught us to read and write. Just merely read and write. Then the education continued in highschool and there, learn more to read, write and understand but are these things enough so that I can that I am a good reader and writer. But wait, why do we need to be a good writer and reader?
Hmm?? I think , we should exert extra efforts and do the best of what we can in every things and every actions if we want to be competitive enough in this world full of competitive and talented people. Because infaireness, even a job that has low income requires  good reader and writer. How much more  to the high income job. Being a good writer and reader is very important because it can be your investment to have a good job and a good future.
As I observe myself, sometimes, I am a good writer and reader but sometimes not. Honestly, it only depends in my mood. When I’m in a good mood, swear!! I can read five pages story back to back! I can also write an essay. See? I’m in a good mood. :D

#1 My Mission In Life

Who doesn't wants to be millionaire? Who doesn't want us to own a multi-million business? Who doesn't wants to travel around the world? Who doesn't wants to pass the exams? Who? Tell me? Nobody.  Right? But know what, I want more than that.
Actually, I just want to be happy, because to be happy is the greatest feeling everyone wants to feel.  Very easy to say so hard to achieve. But you know what, as I sit here in the corner of my room, I realize; there are three things that really make me happy.
First is my family. They are the best gifts I ever have. I told you earlier, I just want to be happy. In order to do that, my family should also be happy and I will do things that make them happy. Even they are not outspoken of what they want me to be, I can feel their perseverance and courage just to let me experience a good quality of education that I am enjoying right now and I will never let them feel disappointed. I need to finish my studies and help them raise our status in life. In that little step by step ways, I can make them happy, so do I.
Second are my dogs. Swear! I love them so much. Every time I saw them, they fade away all my unnecessary feeling I felt. They always completed my day. One day without them is a whore. I would be very glad if I see them running as fast as they want in the backyard of my dream house and we don't need to tie them at all. How I wish, we don't need to sell their poor little puppies just to earn money.
If only I could fast forward the days, I want to work right now. I want to see myself wearing the uniform of the company I am working at. To give my first salary to my parents and buy the things they needed and wanted. I want to have stable job. That’s the third thing that makes me happy: D
After giving love and fulfilling my parent's dream, our dream for our dogs, and to have a stable career, I think, I deserve to have someone who will love me and make me feel special. That would tell me that loving me is the second best thing he ever did because the first thing he did was finding me. Oh, how sweet! At the right time, he will ask my precious hands from my parent and ask me to be with him forever and live a simple and happy life together with our beloved kids and hopefully with our grandchildren. Oh, how i wish..! (Sigh...)
I know I ask for too much, near to perfection but this is not a perfect world, nor a perfect life - life is unfair! Thus, dreaming is free. But with the help of the people around me, who always in my side and supported me endlessly and of course with the Glory of God, I hope I someday, I can say "Mission Accomplished".
